Up to 3 works

Finished, original physical works, from any year. Shown or entered elsewhere is fine. You pick a category for each: Rehumanism: Beauty, Truth, Love, Portrait, Open. Year one especially looks for emotional power, and for work that speaks to our own time.

Images

One main image per work, at least 2,000 pixels on the long side, JPEG or PNG, under 10 MB. The whole work, cropped to its edges: no frame, mat, watermark or border. Up to two details. If it reaches the final round or the show, we ask for a full-resolution file within 7 days.

A statement of purpose

Up to 150 words, any language: who is the work for, and what do you hope it does for the people who see it?

Process images (strongly encouraged)

2 to 5 photos of the work in progress and a note of up to 100 words on how you made it. The jury especially values seeing the process.

An AI declaration

For each work: No AI, Some AI (for example references or composition ideas), Extensive AI, with a note of up to 50 words. It is not disqualifying; be open and honest. The test is whether the work is powerful and moving.

For sale, and at what price?

For each work the entry form asks: is it for sale, and at what price? Give the asking price in U.S. dollars, including any framing, or choose Not for sale. Prices are never shown on your public entry page.

The details

Title, medium, size, year and the value it carries most: Beauty, Truth or Love.

Process images are what make this prize different. The judges see them with your statement, and if you are exhibited they hang beside your work. At least 1,200 pixels on the long side.

1. The first idea: a thumbnail, study or reference you made.
2. The drawing on the canvas or panel.
3. The underpainting or first pass of color.
4. A middle stage, when the work found its way.
5. Your hands, palette or a detail, if it tells the story. Leave your face and signature out, so judging can stay blind.

Within 7 days of submitting, one public post that starts “I entered”, with #RehumanismPrize, @occidentalfinearts and the link to your entry page. Instagram is suggested, but any public post counts: Facebook, Threads, X, Bluesky, TikTok, LinkedIn, a blog or your own website. Can't post publicly? Ask us for the free no-post option. 1. Round one: craft, blind. Three independent judges see only the work: no name, no statement. A good story never rescues weak craft.
2. Round two: the shortlist. The strongest entries are seen again with their statements and process images.
3. Selected artists notified. 50 works are chosen for the exhibition; each artist receives a $250 honorarium and hears from us by email.
4. Ship to Seattle. Selected works travel to the ArtLove Salon, with their return already arranged. See Shipping, simply, below.
5. In front of the originals. The judges decide the prizes standing in front of the real works, and the winners are announced on opening night.

We will make a book from the entries, like the Seattle Prize Year One books. The book and the catalog are printed from the full-resolution files.

Selected artists pay to ship their work in and back, as at most competitions. You set up the return before you send it, so the same box brings your work home. Insure it in transit; while it is in our care, we insure it.

1. We send you a guide. If you are selected, we email a short packing guide, a one-page checklist and your delivery dates. Nothing to work out alone.
2. Pack it once, well. A sturdy double-wall box or a crate you can reuse. Glassine and a board over the face, corners protected, bubble wrap outside. No peanuts, no glass.
3. Set up the return first. Put a prepaid return label (FedEx, UPS or USPS) in the box, or book a fine-art shipper to collect it. Then nothing is left hanging after the show.
4. Ship it, or bring it. Send it to the ArtLove Salon in downtown Seattle to arrive between April 13 and April 24, 2027, or bring it yourself by appointment, Tuesday to Saturday, 12 to 4 PM.
