Three museum manners

1. Eyes close, hands off. The shine on these objects took a century to earn. Lean in as close as you like — just don’t touch.
2. Walking feet, inside voices. It’s a gallery, not a gym — but talking about the objects is the whole point. Discuss freely.
3. Stay with your team. If you need help, museum staff are around and happy to be asked.

Your role: keep asking

Students will have a scavenger hunt sheet. You don’t need any answers — you need questions. These four work on every object in the room:

• What do you think this was for?
• Who do you think used it — and how often?
• Find the wear: where did hands touch this for years?
• Is there anything in your house that does this job today?

Before you leave, do a one-minute recap with your team: each student names the one object they’d take home, and why.

Quick facts

• The exhibition: real antiques, paintings, and colorized Seattle photographs, roughly 1850s–1980s.
• Where: Occidental Fine Arts Center, 311½ Occidental Ave S (2nd floor), Pioneer Square. Free admission.
• Some objects have short, playful AI-made videos where they “talk” — the object is real, the voice is invented. Great conversation starter.
